The final stage of the collector reconstruction in Arkadiya, which began in 2017, is currently ongoing in Odessa.
This project covers both surface and underwater work aimed at ensuring the reliable operation of drainage systems that have been in a state of emergency for many years.
At the site from the ground exit to the seashore, specialists are cleaning an old drainage pipe that was in critical condition — its base had rotted, causing water to flow directly on the ground. According to the project, a new polyethylene pipe, resistant to aggressive environments, will be inserted into the old 2-meter diameter pipe. The space between them will be filled with concrete to strengthen the structure and extend its service life.
The next phase will involve laying the pipe in the marine section. These works will be carried out in stages: divers will cut technological hatches, clean the inner surface, and install the new pipe, using a floating barge with a crane for this purpose.
«The work in Arkadiya is the final active phase of a long-term project that aims to provide quality drainage and comfort for residents and visitors of Odessa», noted Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
After the completion of the works, the area will be cleared of construction debris. According to specialists, the updated beach will be able to accommodate vacationers in comfortable conditions as early as next year.
Coastal Reinforcement and Future Embankment
Simultaneously, coastal reinforcement is taking place along the shoreline from Arkadiya to Novoberehova Street. This work is aimed at protecting the shore from destructive waves that erode the soil during storms, causing the shore to literally «sink» into the sea.
Currently, the demolition of old anti-landslide elements, piling, preparation for concreting, and the production of reinforced concrete products is ongoing. These elements serve not only a technical function of reinforcement but also form the basis for the improvement of the area.
«In the future, a modern embankment with pedestrian areas, ramps, bike paths, and a restored part of the «Health Trail» will be established here, returning in an improved form», Gennady Trukhanov explained.
