The flowering season of ragweed has begun in Odesa. Municipal services are engaged in combating this dangerous weed, known to be a potent allergen.

Common ragweed is classified as a quarantine weed, inflicting significant damage not only to agriculture but also to human health.

To prevent the spread of ragweed, the municipal enterprise 'City Green Trust' has initiated mowing and additional activities a month prior to flowering. They utilize a natural product called 'Bishofit' for its eradication, spraying about 300 liters per hectare. This solution penetrates the plant through its leaves, causing rapid wilting while being safe for people and the environment.

The City Green Trust reminds that according to the 'Rules of Urban Improvement of Odesa', the responsibility for weed eradication falls on property holders and users of buildings and land—ranging from businesses to private homeowners.

The control department of the enterprise monitors compliance with the improvement rules: in cases of ragweed detection, they issue citations, and in complex situations, they compile reports.

According to the City Green Trust, there are currently no large ragweed outbreaks detected within the city.

Under the Law of Ukraine 'On Plant Quarantine', measures for the destruction of quarantine organisms on land plots are carried out by landowners and land users at their own expense. Inspectors from the City Green Trust have the authority to compile administrative reports if weed eradication requirements are not met, which are then submitted to the administrative commission of the Odesa City Council.
Reports are prepared in accordance with Article 152 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, which may lead to fines ranging from: for individuals - from 340 UAH to 1360 UAH, for officials and business entities - from 850 UAH to 1700 UAH.
