The Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, has put forward an intriguing idea for establishing a "transport corridor that will connect the Greek port of Alexandroupolis with Odessa through the territories of Romania and Bulgaria.
As reported by "Interfax-Ukraine", Mitsotakis shared this idea during the 4th "Ukraine-Southeast Europe" summit held on June 11 in Odessa.
He proposed to create a route approximately 700 km long connecting Alexandroupolis to Odessa, passing through Varna and Constanta.
"I envision Odessa being at one end of this ambitious, comprehensive project aimed at developing connectivity, starting in the port of Alexandroupolis, going through Varna, Constanta, and finally reaching Odessa. This project could be proposed for EU funding", the Prime Minister stated.
In his view, this could be a multifaceted project, including the construction of railway lines, power transmission lines, and pipelines, facilitating faster transport compared to maritime shipping.
He emphasized that the project would provide "a clear and tangible vision of how Ukraine's integration into the EU can genuinely transform the lives of Ukrainians".
