On Memorial Day for the defenders of Ukraine, Odesa held a solemn inauguration of the Memorial Alley honoring fallen heroes.
Hundreds of families from Odesa, along with local authorities, military personnel, and veterans gathered to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and future.
Ruslan Prykhodko, Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs, expressed gratitude to the team that brought the Memorial Alley project to life:
«This is not just a place of remembrance for our fallen defenders; it is a site for shaping our national identity».
Currently, over 200 names are represented on the Memorial Alley in Taras Shevchenko Park, although the number of fallen heroes is far greater.
Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, stated that the Alley will continue to be updated with the names of defenders who have fallen since 2014.
Additionally, work is underway with the parents of fallen heroes to create a Memorial at one of the city's cemeteries.
Furthermore, the beautification of the Glory and Freedom Square and the Memorial to Fighters for Ukraine is ongoing.
«For me, these are not just projects; they symbolize our memory, gratitude, and commitment to never forget! These are places where we can gather and support one another on days of remembrance», - noted Hennadiy Trukhanov.
Together, we preserve the memory of those who have fallen, and collectively, we will continue their legacy by building a better future for us all.
