Investigators have completed the preliminary investigation and submitted charges against the suspect to the court. For causing serious bodily harm, he faces up to eight years of imprisonment.

This was reported by the police.

The incident occurred in September of last year in the Primorsky district of Odessa. During the preliminary investigation, police established that a 67-year-old resident of Mykolaiv region, having missed his train, sought shelter in a high-rise building where apartments are rented out.

Accidentally mistaking the apartment number, the elderly man began knocking on the door of a 31-year-old local resident and attempted to open it. When the homeowner came out, a dispute arose regarding why the stranger had entered the area where he did not reside.

The verbal conflict escalated into a physical altercation, during which the younger local man assaulted the elderly visitor. The victim lost consciousness, and the assailant dragged him to a fence, where he struck him several more times and left.

The injured man was discovered by a bus station guard who alerted the police. Medical personnel hospitalized the victim with a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, brain contusion, and multiple head abrasions. According to the forensic medical examination, these injuries are classified as serious and life-threatening. The perpetrator who inflicted serious bodily harm was located and detained by police operatives the following morning.

«The offender was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, at our request, was placed in custody, where he remains. After gathering sufficient evidence of the suspect's illegal actions, we charged him under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This pertains to the intentional infliction of serious bodily harm that is dangerous to life at the time of infliction. The indictment has been sent to court. Under current legislation, the offender faces up to eight years of imprisonment», - stated investigator Valeria Bulyga.
