On Saturday, Meta Platforms announced the launch of its latest version of the Llama language model named Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick.
This was reported by Reuters.
Meta claims that Llama is a multimodal artificial intelligence system.
Such systems can handle and integrate various data types, including text, images, video, and audio, and can convert content between these formats.
Furthermore, Meta added that Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout will be available as open-source software.
The company also announced a preview of Llama 4 Behemoth, which it described as "one of the smartest LLMs in the world, serving as a teacher for our new models.".
Major tech firms are heavily investing in AI infrastructure following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has transformed the tech landscape and spurred investment in machine learning.
On Friday, The Information reported that Meta had postponed the launch of the latest LLM version due to Llama 4 not meeting their expectations in technical testing, particularly in reasoning and math tasks.
The company was also concerned that Llama 4 was less capable than OpenAI's models in conducting human-like conversations, as noted in the report.
