On October 3-4, 2024, Lviv hosted the forum «Financial Stability and Community Development» as part of the Ukrainian Resilience Week.
This event brought together local government representatives, Ukrainian and international banking institutions, as well as experts in local finance.
The forum «Financial Stability and Economic Development of Communities» «Let’s Meet in Lviv Under the Umbrella of Finance» featured: Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi; First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Chairman of the Budget Committee Oleksandr Korniienko; Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration Maksym Kozytskyi; Head of the «Good Governance and Rule of Law» Sector of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Asier Santillan; Deputy Chief of the USAID Project «GOVERLA» (online) Mariyan Yukych; Deputy Minister of Finance of Ukraine (online) Olha Zykova; Financial Director (City of Graz, Austria, online) Johannes Mueller; local finance experts from the USAID Project «GOVERLA» Valentyna Tyimoshuk and Nataliia Koren; Advisor to the Head of the Association of Cities of Ukraine Oksana Prodan.
Odessa was represented by Acting Director of the Finance Department of the Odessa City Council Andriy Zarytskyi.
Participants of the forum engaged in discussions and sought solutions to issues in local finance for financial stability and economic growth of communities.
As part of the event, there was a training visit to the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Center, which provides comprehensive medical assistance to military personnel and civilians, both adults and children, who have lost limbs.
Panel discussions at the forum addressed critical topics such as: cooperation with international financial organizations for recovery, resilience, and growth of communities; administration of local taxes (what changes are needed for local governments); powers, responsibilities, and challenges of local financial authorities; tools for cooperation between banks and municipalities; local governments on the path to Eurointegration; medium-term and long-term planning; energy independence of communities; economic accessibility in the context of Eurointegration; ensuring labor market inclusivity through active employment programs; changes in tax and budget legislation to promote job creation in communities, among others.
The event was organized with the support of the USAID Project «Enhancing the Effectiveness and Accountability of Local Government Authorities» («GOVERLA»).
