In Chornomorsk, Odesa region, three young men impersonating military personnel attacked a 41-year-old cyclist, forcibly pushing him into a car while demanding his documents. The police have already charged the offenders.
According to the Odesa region police press service, the incident occurred on the road near Chornomorsk. The three men in uniform blocked the cyclist's path, claimed to be from the territorial recruitment and social support center, and started demanding documents, accompanying their actions with violence.
It has been reported that the young men had no affiliation with military service and forcibly shoved the victim into their vehicle.
The cyclist managed to call 102 to report the incident. Officers quickly located the victim and found out that the attackers were members of a local civic organization, which lacks authority to conduct mobilization activities.
Police confiscated the vehicle used in the assault, membership cards of the civic organization, and other items of interest for the investigation from the three suspects, aged 22, 25, and 27.
The suspects now face charges of unlawfully assuming official powers and illegal deprivation of liberty, both committed with the intent to cause harm. The maximum penalty for these offenses could be up to five years in prison. Pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
