In Odessa, a delegation from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Ukraine, led by Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Matthias Schmale, is visiting.
Today, on October 15, 2024, delegation members toured the city’s Social-Psychological Assistance Center for internally displaced persons and those affected by armed conflict, where about 100 displaced individuals currently reside.
The UN representatives learned about the living conditions of the residents and engaged with both the displaced persons and the center's staff.
The center is equipped with comfortable living quarters, a psychologist's office, children's rooms for education and recreational activities, large laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining area, and an assembly hall.
Regular workshops and various activities for children are held at the center. Adults have the chance to learn professions and gain employment.
The center staff noted that charitable organizations and international missions provide comprehensive support to those temporarily residing here.
«We are concerned about the assistance to internally displaced persons. I see that this center has created comfortable living conditions for people who have been forced to leave their homes. It is one of the best in Ukraine,» stated Mr. Matthias Schmale.
The advisor to the mayor of Odessa on social and humanitarian issues, Veronika Etnarovych, mentioned that the possibility of establishing another such center in Odessa is currently being explored.
