The civic organization «Decolonization. Ukraine» has updated its data on the number of streets that require renaming in Ukraine as part of the decommunization process. The list includes 228 streets in the Odesa region.
Odesa region ranks fifth among the Ukrainian regions for the number of streets that need to be renamed in the decommunization process. The leader remains Zaporizhzhia region, where 1001 streets need to be decolonized.
«This list is not exhaustive, as there are streets named after local communist figures that many were unaware of», – noted the organization, adding that the map will be updated following further clarifications.
It is also worth mentioning that there are regions, such as Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv, where activists believe the renaming process is already complete.
The YouTube channel «Odesa Life» has launched a new series of videos titled «Streets of Odesa: Then and Now», which tells the stories of people whose names adorn the streets of Odesa and its surrounding areas.
Previously, the project «Decolonization. Ukraine» published a map of monuments and signs dedicated to Pushkin that have yet to be dismantled. According to their estimates, the highest number is found in Odesa. Additionally, there has been a proposal to rename Mark Twain Park in Odesa.
