The Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, held an online meeting with Tony Dyer, the Mayor of Bristol (United Kingdom).
During the conversation, the parties discussed prospects for collaboration, particularly in film and UNESCO.
Bristol is known for its vibrant cultural scene and film industry. Since 2017, the city has been a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities network, having earned the title of «City of Film».
«I believe that international relations between countries rely on horizontal connections between municipalities, which are more practical and productive. Your experience in addressing community challenges and managing UNESCO sites, along with your approach to architectural monuments, is highly significant for us. Our team wishes to draw from the experiences of cities in Europe and the UK, recognized for their traditions and preservation of history. Your rich cultural heritage and focus on architecture, museums, and archives serve as a bright example of how modernity and respect for the past can coexist harmoniously. We aspire to adopt such approaches to maintain our identity while moving forward,» said the Mayor of Odessa.
In the near future, representatives from Bristol plan to visit Odessa to strengthen partnerships and gain a deeper understanding of the city, its culture, history, infrastructure, and business.
Bristol was named the best city to live in Britain in 2014 and 2017, and in 2015 it received the title of «European Green Capital».
