In 2028, Ukraine is set to implement a new assessment system for 9th-grade students, covering two main areas – language and literature, and mathematics. However, the full implementation of this system is not expected until 2029.
This was announced by the Ukrainian Center for Quality Assessment in Education.
In the fall of 2026, a trial of certain tools and procedures for the new assessment system at the 9th-grade level is planned, focusing on language (state language) and mathematics.
Approximately 2000 10th-grade students will participate from educational institutions where new teaching and methodological materials have been piloted.
The continuation of pilot projects is also scheduled for 2027.
"Refined tools and procedures for assessing student achievements in the language-literature and mathematics areas will be tested, including the use of a special educational platform being developed by IT specialists," the UCAEA stated.
Furthermore, preliminary testing of tools from other educational areas, including civic, historical, natural sciences, informational, and foreign languages, is planned for 2027.
In 2028, the new assessment system for language and literature and mathematics is likely to be fully operational, while additional testing of tools for other areas will continue.
Thus, comprehensive implementation of the new assessment system is possible no earlier than 2029, as indicated by the UCAEA.
We remind that starting from 2027, 4th-grade students in Ukrainian schools will take the state final assessment in the form of external independent evaluation.
