On October 4, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a new resolution providing for a subsidy from the state budget to local budgets for organizing meals for elementary school students in general education institutions.

According to this resolution, 70% of the costs for feeding students in grades 1-4 will be covered, while 30% must be allocated from the city budget.

Elena Bujnevich, Director of the Department of Education and Science, announced that a corresponding draft decision for the Odessa City Council will be prepared shortly.

Approximately 20,000 students in grades 1-4 in Odessa's educational institutions are expected to benefit from free meals.

«After the deputies approve and allocate funds from the city budget, the next step will be the tender process. Currently, only children in grades 1-4 from low-income categories are fed at the city's expense», - highlighted the head of the city’s Department of Education and Science.
