Marie-Luise Beck, a German politician and director of the Center for Liberal Modernity, has been awarded an honorary distinction by the mayor of Odessa for her significant humanitarian efforts, support for the city's residents during wartime, and enhancement of international cooperation.

She initiated the project for the memorial «Against Forgetting» on Lustdorf Road, a site where over 25,000 people, mainly of Jewish and Romani descent, were burned alive in 1941.

A grant of one million euros was secured for the realization of this project. However, due to the ongoing war, the work had to be postponed, and the funds redirected toward humanitarian needs of the city.

As a result, Odessa received transportation, special equipment, generators, medical supplies, and other critically important resources.

The city authorities express their gratitude for the support and hope to resume pre-war projects and foster further cooperation for the development of Odessa.
