Odesa's own Nikita Sheremet set a new junior world record during the final relay event of the 4x50 freestyle at the European Swimming Championship. His impressive time of 20.84 marked the start of his medal chase.

In August, at the junior world championships held in Otopeni, Romania, Nikita clinched a gold medal in the 50m freestyle with a time of 21.75 (50m pool), tying the junior world record set by American Michael Andrew and establishing a new competition and national record.
