On December 18, 2024, Ukraine mourns the loss of Sergey Olizarenko, a remarkable athlete who participated in the 1980 Olympic Games.
At the Moscow Olympics, Sergey competed in the 3000 meters steeplechase, achieving an impressive 3rd place in the semifinals with a time of 8:34.2. Sadly, he could not participate in the final due to an injury.
He was happily married to Olympic champion Nadiya Olizarenko.
The Odessa City Council and the sports community express their heartfelt condolences to Sergey Olizarenko's family and loved ones.
The farewell ceremony for the outstanding athlete will take place on December 21, 2024: at 10:30 AM – a requiem at the Holy Assumption Cathedral (70 Preobrazhenska St.), at 12:00 PM - cremation at the Tairovo cemetery crematorium.
