On September 2nd, Odesa commenced with a solemn flag-raising ceremony, featuring the city banner and flags of various branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, bravely defending our nation.
The Mayor, Hennadiy Trukhanov, emphasized that this year we celebrate City Day not with fireworks, but with deep faith. We are grateful to the Defense Forces for every day Odesa stands strong. Our city has become a symbol of resilience, dignity, and mutual support. We honor the memory of those we have lost and thank those who defend us on the front lines and at home.
Today, the flags of Mariupol, Bakhmut, Lysychansk, Henichesk, and other occupied Ukrainian cities also waved in the Birzha Square.
“Odesa is not just architecture and the sea. It is the people. It is those who do not lose their humanity amidst the rockets, who help their neighbors, defend the country, save children, repair schools, prepare meals for the military, and simply do not give up. Odesa will live on. And it will be even stronger, more beautiful, and brighter,” said Hennadiy Trukhanov, greeting Odesans on City Day.
