Andriy Yermolenko, a renowned artist and Shevchenko Prize laureate, is executing the "Resistance Mural" project in Odesa — a series of eight murals dedicated to the spirit of Ukrainian resistance and the heroism of modern warriors. Each mural not only beautifies the city but also carries a message of memory.

Among the new images is a Cossack symbolizing strength and resilience. The latest mural, dedicated to Ukraine's defenders, is rich in meaning and symbolism.

The artist believes that the spirit of resistance lives in every Ukrainian, as it is the legacy of the Cossacks who fought for freedom. From Odesa, Cossacks set off to battle, and today that fight continues.

The modern Cossack depicted in the mural embodies each of us. His faceless image represents all who are ready to defend. Behind him stands a wolf, symbolizing Special Operations Forces, while a raven, representing the wisdom of partisans, accompanies him.

"We will not forget and will not forgive. This is our land, and we will not give it up," emphasizes Andriy Yermolenko.

In the background of the murals is the sea and a lighthouse, signifying the participation of Odesa residents in the resistance movement. The artist highlights the importance of supporting those who await liberation and calls for unity.

"A blue and yellow ribbon on the wrist can cost a life. I urge everyone to join the resistance movement," the artist states.

Odesa has become a symbol of resistance, as it was here in 2014 that people stood against attempts of occupation. This city has transformed, and today it thrives with a Ukrainian-speaking culture.

"I am impressed by the people and the atmosphere of the city," concludes Andriy Yermolenko.
