The city of Odesa has initiated the demolition of residential buildings that were damaged due to Russian strikes.
On July 17, during an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee, a decision was made to assign the Department of Urban Development of the Odesa City Council as the contractor for urgent emergency measures.
According to the technical conclusion and the decision of the regional commission for TEB and NS, a partial demolition of five buildings is proposed: four near the train station and one on Serednia Street. Two buildings on Novoselskoho Street have been declared unsuitable for restoration (one of them partially), as well as a private house on Vynohradna Street.
“The owners of these buildings can apply for compensation under the state program eRecovery and receive housing certificates to purchase new housing,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov.
As for the five partially destroyed buildings, the city authorities will provide support for their restoration. Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the total number of damaged facilities in Odesa is 3,232, of which 1,295 are residential buildings.
“All our actions are not just a technical response to the consequences of enemy attacks but a display of responsibility towards people who have lost their homes. The city authorities continue to seek resources and partners both among state bodies and international organizations to provide essential support. We are also mobilizing internal reserves: specialists, infrastructure, volunteer initiatives to respond swiftly and appropriately,” commented Hennadii Trukhanov.
