The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, held a meeting with the director of the Hydro-Meteorological Center, Viktor Sytov, to discuss critical meteorological issues.

During the meeting, they talked about the timeline of an emergency event and ways to enhance cooperation between meteorological services and local authorities.

Viktor Sytov mentioned that the center operates 12 weather stations, including four marine ones. However, the existing equipment does not allow precise precipitation forecasting, only cloud coverage monitoring.

The director of the Hydro-Meteorological Center emphasized the need for modern locators, which have already been installed in Lviv and Kyiv regions with state funding.

«Finnish equipment has a range of up to 300 km, which could cover the entire southern region, including Vinnytsia. We have already reported this to the central government», he stressed.

Following the meeting, Trukhanov instructed his deputies to prepare technical specifications for installing such a locator in Odesa.

The mayor also plans to reach out to sister cities for support regarding this initiative, aimed at improving the safety of residents.

«Having accurate weather forecasts is crucial for us, as we base our emergency response plans on meteorological data», emphasized Hennadiy Trukhanov.
