At the beginning of October, during a patrol, officers from the Izmail District Water Police, together with the Odessa Fish Protection Patrol, discovered a 63-year-old man at Katlabuh Lake unloading biological resources caught with prohibited nets.

This information was confirmed by law enforcement.

The investigators who arrived at the scene seized a boat, 150 meters of gill nets, and 69 fish, including crucian carp, carp, silver carp, bream, and pike. During the pre-trial investigation, the illegally caught fish were transferred to a specialized enterprise for safekeeping.

According to the results of an engineering and ecological examination, the damages caused to the state amounted to nearly 209 thousand hryvnias.

The fisherman admitted his guilt, explaining that he was aware of the prohibition on catching biological resources with gill nets but still used them for personal purposes.

During the pre-trial investigation, which was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office, police established all the circumstances of the offense, gathered sufficient evidence, and filed charges against the individual for illegal fishing that caused significant harm. The indictment has been sent to court under Part 1 of Article 249 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The maximum punishment under this sanction is three years of restriction of freedom.
