On November 1st, Poland celebrates All Saints' Day, a time when cemeteries are illuminated by thousands of candles.
In Odesa, a ceremony took place where candles were lit and flowers were laid at the 6th km of the Ovidiopol highway.
This event honored the memory of victims of mass political repression during the 1930s, which saw the loss of thousands of lives, including many Poles.
The ceremony was attended by Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, the Consul of the Republic of Poland in Odesa Jacek Gocłowski, along with representatives of the diaspora and Polish community organizations in the city.
The Mayor introduced the newly appointed consul to the history of the tragic site and the initiatives that had been undertaken prior to the full-scale invasion to honor the victims of repression and document the crimes of Soviet authority.
During the discussion, it was noted that Poland is aware of this site and respects the attitude towards memory demonstrated by the residents of Odesa.
Mr. Gocłowski remarked that support and assistance will be provided by the consulate, the diaspora, and Poland to implement the project after Ukraine's victory.
