Incident with Military Personnel at TCC in Odesa on February 22

The incident took place on February 22 on Italian Boulevard. Police have already detained a man who inflicted bodily harm on a military personnel.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 28-year-old resident of the Bereziv district initiated a conflict with the military personnel during a document check.

The man sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers and fired several shots in his direction with a traumatic weapon before fleeing. The victim was taken to a medical facility,
– the police stated.

They also added that operatives from the territorial police unit arrested the offender. He has been handed over to the SBU investigators.

Response from the TCC

  • The Odesa Regional TCC has already responded to the assault on the military personnel and provided details. They stated that the 28-year-old resident of the Bereziv district of Odesa region refused to comply with the legal demands of the military to present military registration documents.
  • "He sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers, fired several shots in his direction with a weapon (preliminarily, a traumatic one), after which he attempted to escape", – the TCC reported.
  • They added that the SBU has initiated criminal proceedings under Article 114-1 of the Criminal Code, "Obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a special period". The TCC noted that such actions are classified as particularly serious crimes, which entail the harshest sanctions. The materials are currently being sent to court for the selection of a preventive measure.
  • The TCC also emphasized that violence against military personnel is unacceptable, and mobilization is a duty of every citizen.
  • "Citizens need to understand that any manifestations of resistance to the military administration directly affect the country's defense capability", – the TCC highlighted.
