A 37-year-old man has been charged under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and has been remanded in custody. He faces up to eight years in prison for the offenses committed.
Officers from the Odessa District Police Department No. 2 discovered that a resident of the Vygodyanska community was in possession of ammunition and narcotic substances, looking for buyers.
During the operational measures, law enforcement documented the suspect selling two grenades and a package containing a narcotic substance, receiving 5500 hryvnias in return.
With the involvement of specialists from the regional police's explosive ordnance disposal unit, investigators seized the grenade bodies with fuses, which, according to preliminary conclusions, are operational military munitions. They also confiscated a substance confirmed as narcotic through rapid testing, along with cash.
Additionally, during a sanctioned search at the suspect's residence, several zip bags containing similar plant material, packaging equipment, and over a hundred rounds of ammunition were seized. Part of the seized items has been sent for expert examination.
According to Andriy Donets, the head of Odessa District Police Department No. 2, the offender was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and has been charged with the illegal acquisition, storage for sale, and illegal sale of narcotic substances (part 1 of Article 307 of the CCU), as well as carrying, acquiring, and selling military munitions without legal permission (part 1 of Article 263 of the CCU).
At the request of the investigators, the court has chosen pre-trial detention as a preventive measure. The offender faces up to eight years in imprisonment for his actions.
All circumstances of the crime, including the channel through which the “goods” reached the suspect, will be established during the investigation. The procedural leadership in the case is carried out by the Bilayaivka District Prosecutor's Office.
