Driving a car in today's world opens up new possibilities for many individuals. The freedom to travel, the opportunity to find a new job, and simply the comfort of daily life are all connected to having a driver's license. However, before you can hit the road, there are certain steps to follow.
In Ukraine, there are no age limits for obtaining a driver's license, but there are minimum age requirements. This means that if you are 16 years old, you can start learning to ride a moped or motorcycle. Driving heavy vehicles is permitted from the age of 19, while operating a trolleybus or tram is allowed from 21 years old.
According to Ukrainian legislation, the age requirements for different vehicle categories are as follows:
16 years - categories A1, A;
18 years - categories B1, B, C1, C;
19 years - categories BE, C1E, CE;
21 years - categories D1, D, D1E, DE, T.
How to Obtain a License?
To get a driver's license, you need to study the traffic rules according to the training program. You can learn independently or enroll in a driving school. After that, you need to pass a theoretical exam at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center. If you pass the test successfully, practical training follows at the driving school, along with an internal practical exam, and finally, another exam at the service center.
To take the exams at the service center, you need to prepare the following documents:
passport with registration or ID card;
medical certificate of fitness;
taxpayer identification number;
existing driver's license (if applicable).
Remember, the fee for the theoretical exam is 250 UAH, and for the practical exam, it's 420 UAH.
Services at territorial units are provided by prior registration in the E-Record system or at the self-service terminal located in the service center. For inquiries, call (044) 290-19-88 or check the information on the pages of the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on social media.
