The actions of an official in the previous year led to multiple incidents of waste self-ignition and significant fires. Firefighters took over a week to extinguish the flames. The accused faces up to 5 years in prison. This was reported by the police.

Investigators have found that the director of a municipal enterprise responsible for household waste collection failed to adhere to the regulations governing the landfill assigned to the company. Specifically, the official did not implement measures for the construction of a system to extract and neutralize biogas generated from waste decomposition, nor did he provide security for the landfill.

This negligence resulted in numerous incidents of waste self-ignition, leading to the spread of fires over a large area, which took firefighters more than a week to extinguish. According to expert assessments, the damage caused to the environment by pollutant emissions into the atmosphere due to the fires exceeded 4 million 750 thousand UAH.

"After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the individual under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: negligence (part 2 of article 367) and air pollution with harmful substances (part 2 of article 241)", reported Andriy Donets, head of the Odesa District Police Department No. 2.

«The accused faces imprisonment of up to five years with a ban on holding certain positions for up to three years. The pre-trial investigation, conducted under the procedural guidance of the Bilayivka District Prosecutor's Office, has been completed. The indictment has been sent to court», added Police Colonel Andriy Donets.
