A one-year-old boy tragically passed away in the Berezivka district of the Odesa region after being admitted to the hospital with severe injuries. His mother has been detained on suspicion of abuse.
This was reported by the Main Department of the National Police of Odesa region.
The child was brought to the hospital in a deep coma by his 26-year-old mother. Doctors found serious injuries, including a brain contusion and old fractures.
The mother claimed that the injuries were due to the child falling from the bed. Unfortunately, the child died.
"During the investigation, the police discovered that the woman had lied and caused bodily harm to the child while he was crying," the authorities stated.
The woman was detained and charged under Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for causing serious bodily harm. Police noted that she faces "a significant prison term."
A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen for the suspect.
As part of the investigation, law enforcement appointed a number of examinations, including forensic, to determine the exact cause of the child's death.
It is worth noting that in the Ternopil region, a woman was sentenced for intentionally stabbing her three-year-old son's eye. As a result, the boy lost vision in one eye.
