A repeat offender, previously convicted for theft, attacked a victim under the guise of offering help to find their way. For his actions, he received a seven-year prison sentence.

The incident occurred in February of this year in the Primorsky district of Odesa. During lunchtime, a passerby noticed an elderly man looking disoriented, who had come to the regional center from Berezivka on business. The offender pretended to be kind and offered to guide the 62-year-old grandfather, then seized the mobile phone from his pocket at the right moment.

The police quickly located the perpetrator in a nearby neighborhood and returned the stolen phone to its owner.

At the time of the robbery, the 39-year-old suspect already had convictions for property crimes and drug offenses. The court placed him in custody, but he did not post bail.

After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the suspect under Part 4 of Article 186 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for open theft of someone else's property during martial law. Following the completion of the pre-trial investigation, which was conducted under the guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa, the indictment was sent to court.

The court reviewed the materials and found the defendant guilty of robbery, imposing a seven-year prison sentence.
