In a village in the Odesa region, a 50-year-old woman accidentally shot her 5-year-old granddaughter while trying to hide an air rifle. This was reported by the National Police.
On April 20, medical personnel informed the police about the hospitalization of the girl at the Odesa Regional Children's Clinical Hospital due to injuries to her lower jaw and neck. During the investigation, law enforcement officials preliminarily established that the woman, a resident of a settlement in the Izmail district, attempted to conceal her son’s air rifle from her grandchildren and accidentally fired, hitting her granddaughter who was nearby.
The case regarding the child’s injury has been registered by investigators at the Izmail district police department under Article 128 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, pertaining to negligent severe or moderate bodily harm. The maximum punishment for this offense is up to two years of imprisonment.
"A number of forensic examinations have been appointed as part of the proceedings, and all circumstances of the event are being established. The investigation continues under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office" - the report states.
