On April 24, an extraordinary photo exhibition showcasing the beauty and vulnerability of our planet will open at the «Dialogues» gallery located at Soborna Square, 2 in Odesa.

This was announced by the National Antarctic Scientific Center.

The exhibition, a collaboration between Ukraine and Peru, is symbolically titled «Planet on the Grill: Vulnerable Worlds of Antarctica and the Amazon». It features photographs from two ecosystems that are starkly different in temperature: the hot Amazon rainforest and the icy Antarctic.

The exhibition comprises 36 photographs arranged in pairs, as despite their differences, the Amazon and Antarctica share many commonalities: human impact on nature, vulnerable species, and incredible beauty.

The Amazon photos were taken by Freddy F. Ramirez, a researcher from the National University of Peruvian Amazon, with most images captured during 2024.

Photographs of Antarctica were taken by Ukrainian researchers who worked on the icy continent between 2019 and 2024.

Scientists have noted that both ecosystems are undergoing irreversible changes. The record drought in the humid Amazon forests and the melting glaciers in Antarctica are symptoms of the same disease—climate change.

The images will reveal what is happening to these ecosystems and how local plants and animals are responding.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on April 24 at 6:00 PM at the «Dialogues» gallery at Soborna, 2.

Director of the National Antarctic Scientific Center, Yevhen Dykhyi, will participate in the opening.

The venue is located in the basement, providing protection.

The exhibition will run until May 3, and admission is free.
