On June 7, the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art will open an exhibition titled «Air of War». The author is an active member of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, whose identity remains confidential.
The museum announced the event on its social media pages.
The initial motivation for this installation stemmed from the personal experience of losing comrades and the attempt to cope with traumatic memories. The concept of a memory space emerged in the author's mind as a place where each fallen comrade can be present in memory, albeit symbolically, as stated in the exhibition release.
This project is completely confidential: no names, surnames, or personal information about soldiers are mentioned; there is no information that could reveal military secrets or the identity of the author, who is still serving.
The installation will consist of 88 canvases, each named after the date of a comrade's death.
The curator of the project is Yulia Tomashevskaya-Garachuk. During the opening, there will also be a lecture by the curator of the memory culture platform Past/Future/Art, Oksana Dovgopolova.
The museum has also informed that there will be an age restriction: children under 16 are not encouraged to attend.
On the opening day, entry is free. Subsequently, a ticket will cost up to 100 UAH. For those who have been temporarily displaced, entry is free.
