At the age of 76, the renowned Odessa artist Sergey Mikhailovich Ilyin passed away unexpectedly, having been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and a senior researcher at the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art.
Born on April 30, 1949, Sergey Ilyin graduated from the Grekov Odessa Art School and the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University. For many years, he contributed to the Museum of Western and Eastern Art.
Sergey was deeply committed to his craft, making a significant impact on the museum's development through his genuine love for culture and art. He skillfully blended the roles of art historian and literary scholar, adeptly managing exhibitions by understanding the essence of each artist, which allowed for optimal presentation of their works.
Since 1996, he also conducted film lectures at the museum while continuing to paint. Sergey Ilyin participated in numerous international exhibitions in cities like Paris and Brussels, and his solo exhibitions were held in Potsdam, Kyiv, and his native Odessa.
Among his professional peers and friends, Sergey was regarded as a talented, kind, and decent person, a true intellectual.
