In Odesa, primary school students will be guaranteed meals until the end of the academic year.
The deputies of the Odesa City Council voted to allocate an additional 20 million hryvnias from the city budget.
Meal provision for primary school students is funded by state subsidies and local budgets – 70% and 30% respectively.
Currently, the subsidy funds have been depleted, and additional allocations are not anticipated at this time.
“I believe it is wrong to stop meal provision in the middle of the academic year. I am pleased that most of you share this opinion. The decision made will ensure meals for this academic year, regardless of the state subsidy availability,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
