A resident of Pryamobalka village in the Bolhrad district of Odesa region was reluctant to go to the maternity hospital until severe contractions began — resulting in a delivery with the help of an emergency medical team.

This was reported by the press service of the Center for Emergency Medical Care.

“Upon arrival, it became clear that the delivery was already in progress, and transporting the patient to the hospital was not possible. The woman gave birth at home, in front of her family, in simple rural conditions. Moreover, the situation was complicated by breech presentation (feet first). This is one of the riskiest situations for deliveries outside of a hospital,” said paramedic Tamara Dacheva.

The delivery took place right in the house. The newborn girl appeared without any signs of breathing. Her skin was cyanotic, and her heartbeat was weak. Resuscitation of the newborn began.

The medical team performed airway clearance, bag-mask ventilation, tactile stimulation, and oxygen therapy. After several critical minutes, the baby took her first breath, cried out, her skin turned pink, and breathing resumed.

The mother and the newborn girl were taken to the Artsyz Central District Hospital, and both are in stable condition.
