Odessa is embarking on a new phase of tram modernization, incorporating lift installations on «Tatra» model trams.
The first adapted tram has already begun operation on route No. 15. By the end of the year, two more trams are expected to be retrofitted with lift mechanisms designed by specialists at KP «OMET», which are currently undergoing patent approval.
Mayor Gennady Trukhanov stated that participation in the InnTrans exhibition in Berlin helped find solutions to issues faced by post-Soviet countries.
The «Tatra» trams are among the most successful Czech models, still operational in Prague even after modernization. Innovations from Odessa engineers are making it possible to adapt these vehicles to contemporary standards for comfortable transport of individuals with disabilities.
Prior to the upgrades, consultations were held with key users of the lift mechanism, including veterans and representatives of mobility-impaired groups, as well as wheelchair users and their assistants.
Participants of the meeting evaluated the new mechanism as convenient and reliable. Series installations of lifts on refurbished trams will commence in the workshops of KP «OMET».
