The ophthalmology community has approached the Barrier-Free Council under the Odesa Mayor with a proposal to support the Filatov Eye Institute in implementing barrier-free solutions on its premises. This involves equipping pedestrian areas with tactile elements, creating accessible navigation, and providing information in Braille — all of which are critically important for patients with visual impairments.
«I will bring this issue to the attention of the deputies, as the Filatov Institute is not just a medical facility. It is a research center with over a century of history, subordinated to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Its contribution to the development of ophthalmology is recognized not only in Ukraine but also far beyond its borders. We will definitely find ways to assist», - stated Odesa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.
Daily, the outpatient clinic of the Institute serves around 500 patients, including civilians, children, individuals with disabilities, and military personnel who receive highly qualified assistance.
Previously, repair works on sidewalks and the installation of traffic lights have already been carried out on the section of French Boulevard near the institution.
«The next logical step should be the creation of a fully barrier-free environment that meets the institution's status and the needs of its patients», - noted the mayor's advisor on barrier-free issues, Alexey Morozov.
