At City Clinical Hospital No. 10 in Odesa, with the support of the Health Department, a new eye trauma center has been launched. This unit will operate 24/7, providing specialized care for eye injuries to residents and visitors of the city.
The trauma center assists in cases of household and occupational eye injuries, wounds, burns, chemical injuries, foreign bodies, and sudden vision deterioration. Medical assistance will be provided free of charge under the state medical guarantee program.
Starting in September 2025, the hospital will introduce another medical service – ophthalmology. The eye trauma center will ensure round-the-clock specialized emergency ophthalmological care. A scheduled ophthalmology office will also continue to operate, equipped according to modern medical standards.
Separate rooms and a procedural office have been established in the polytrauma department of MCL No. 10 to provide medical assistance specifically for patients with combined eye injuries and for the inpatient treatment of any other ophthalmological conditions. The operating room has been upgraded with an ophthalmic microscope and other equipment to perform a wide range of ophthalmological surgeries, including cataract and glaucoma procedures.
“The hospital is acquiring new medical services that are essential for clustered facilities according to the infrastructure reform of the national healthcare system, to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and improve the quality of medical care,” stated the CEO of MCL No. 10, Denis Sebov.
Thus, Odesa now has its own comprehensive diagnostic and inpatient ophthalmological service. The need for urgent ophthalmological assistance is particularly relevant during wartime, associated with the increased risk of eye injuries due to enemy attacks.
The opening of the eye trauma center represents not only a significant advancement for City Hospital No. 10 but also a crucial enhancement of the emergency and specialized care system in Odessa. Within the framework of the city health program «Health», sets of lenses and other medical products are being procured for performing cataract surgeries, which residents of Odesa will receive free of charge.
The new ophthalmological service of MCL No. 10 was presented at a conference where the structure and capabilities of the ophthalmological service, its integration, and interaction with other medical facilities were discussed. A master class on ophthalmoscopy was also conducted for doctors.
