Discord is implementing a global age verification system for users to ensure safe access to its platform. All accounts will now be considered teenage by default, with updated communication settings, age restrictions, and content filtering.

The age verification process will gradually roll out starting March 2026 for both new and existing users. Those wishing to access sensitive content, such as age-restricted channels or servers, will need to verify their age through facial recognition technology or by submitting an identification document.

Discord emphasizes that the processing of video data will occur only on users' devices, and all identification documents will be swiftly deleted after verification.

In most cases, verification will be required only once; however, in some instances, multiple methods may be needed to provide additional information for age group determination. The company also notes that the user's age verification status will not be visible to others.

Additionally, Discord has announced the formation of its first "Teen Council," consisting of 10-12 teenagers who will help the company better understand the needs of its young audience on the platform.
