OpenAI has begun the rollout of its new models, including GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini, on the ChatGPT platform. The GPT-4.1 model is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, while the mini version is accessible to everyone, including non-subscribers.
The company emphasizes that GPT-4.1 excels in writing and debugging code and executes commands faster than earlier models. Consequently, OpenAI will cease support for GPT-4o mini.
The GPT-4.1 models were first introduced in the API in April 2025, but the company faced criticism for the lack of a safety report. In response, OpenAI explained that GPT-4.1 is not a "cutting-edge model" and therefore does not require separate scrutiny like more powerful systems do.
