In Odesa, a round table titled «Unity for a Dignified Old Age» was held in preparation for the International Day of Older Persons.
The meeting aimed to highlight the challenges faced by older adults and to unite efforts from both authorities and the community to find solutions that ensure their well-being.
The event was initiated by the «Caritas Odesa UGCC» in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Social Policy of the Odesa City Council.
Participants included Veronica Etnarovych, advisor to the Odesa Mayor on social issues, representatives from social institutions, as well as NGOs such as «April 10» and the «Odesa Regional Organization of the Red Cross of Ukraine».
Oksana Kytayska, director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy, emphasized the importance of expanding the rights of older persons, integrating them into community life, and ensuring quality living conditions.
Several important issues were discussed during the meeting:
- social support for elderly individuals in Odesa;
- results of a survey aimed at identifying the needs of older adults;
- challenges faced by the elderly during wartime;
- the situation of internally displaced individuals requiring home care services;
- ensuring dignified care for older adults.
The event served as a significant platform for exchanging ideas and experiences between local authorities and the public sector.
At the end of the round table, participants discussed prospects for enhancing cooperation among stakeholders in the provision of social services.

The International Day of Older Persons was established by the United Nations General Assembly on December 14, 1990, to raise awareness of the rights and dignity of older persons and to draw attention to the issues of aging.
