Mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, held an online meeting with the mayor of Mainz, Nino Haaze.
During the meeting, they discussed the details of signing a partnership agreement between the cities.
This initiative has already been approved by the deputies of both Odessa and Mainz.
The participants also explored various areas for future cooperation, particularly in culture, social services, bioenergy, and IT sectors.
Gennady Trukhanov noted the significant contribution of the German community to Odessa's development in the early 19th century and expressed hope that contemporary generations could continue this legacy.
«Despite these challenging times, we are moving forward by uniting our efforts», — said the Mayor of Odessa.
Since 2022, Mainz has been accepting refugees from Ukraine, creating conditions for their integration into society.
Gennady Trukhanov thanked the German people for their incredible support and shared information about the recent attacks Odessa has faced.
«The most terrible aspect of this war is that it targets the destruction of the civilian population, culture, and authenticity of Ukraine. We are currently assisting and aiming for long-term cooperation», - said the Mayor of Mainz.
Nino Haaze remarked that Mainz is one of the most dynamic cities in Germany, viewing Odessa in a similar light. He expressed confidence that the partnership agreement would benefit both regions.
