On October 15, 2024, an important working meeting took place in Odesa's city hall, where acting Mayor Oleksandr Filatov and the Mayor's advisor Veronica Etnarovych met with UN humanitarian coordinator Matthias Schmale.
Also present were: head of the Europe and Central Asia department at UN headquarters Abdul Hak Amiri, acting head of the UN in Ukraine Anne-Sophie Le Beux, head of the Southern UN Hub Teikshur Mugari, humanitarian advisor Alina Basiuk, and director of the Department of Labor and Social Policy Olena Kytainska.
The discussions focused on security and humanitarian needs of the city amid military aggression, support for internally displaced persons, and preparations for the winter season.
UN representatives emphasized that in drafting the Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan, the need for assistance to internally displaced persons and the provision of additional modular shelters for Odesa would be taken into account.
Additionally, they explored the possibility of ensuring reliable operation of heating and water supply facilities for social institutions during the autumn and winter period.
Oleksandr Filatov expressed gratitude on behalf of Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov to international partners for their cooperation and comprehensive assistance, particularly in the restoration of homes damaged by hostile attacks.
