Last October, a grotesquely mutilated body was discovered in a forest near a village in the Balta community. The investigation revealed that two men, aged 62 and 29, were involved, having been drinking alcohol with the victim.
The police of Odesa region reported this.
During the drinking session, a quarrel erupted between the men that escalated into a fight: the younger man held the homeowner, while the older one stabbed him in the chest with a knife he had on him. This blow was fatal, and the victim died on the spot.
To conceal the crime, the perpetrators transported the body to the forest, where they mutilated it, including decapitating it, and then set it on fire. The younger suspect was apprehended at home.
The court imposed a preventive measure of detention without bail during the pre-trial investigation.
The older man fled immediately after the crime and began to evade law enforcement. His case has been separated into a different proceeding, and he is wanted.
The vehicle used by the suspects, communication devices, and other items relevant to the case were seized, and after expert examinations, they were added to the case materials as physical evidence.
The pre-trial investigation concerning the 29-year-old, who had a prior criminal record for property crimes, has been completed.
He is charged with murder committed in concert with others. The case has been referred to court.
The maximum penalty for this crime is life imprisonment.
