Recently, media and social networks circulated information that the government allegedly reduced the duration of school holidays for students in 2025.
However, the Ministry of Education and Science refuted these claims, stating that the academic year duration is determined separately by each school.
The ministry confirmed that according to the Cabinet's resolution, the academic year will last from September 2, 2024, to June 30, 2025. However, these dates are merely guidelines, not mandatory deadlines.
“The date, as well as the academic year structure and holiday schedule, are determined by the schools themselves, not by the government. This is not a new practice; such flexibility has been allowed by existing legislation for many years, even before the full-scale war,” the ministry added.
In fact, schools have the autonomy to decide when to conclude the academic year for their students.
At the same time, educational councils consider:
- the overall volume of educational load;
- the security situation in the region;
- the individual needs of students;
- the readiness of teachers.
