In the northern part of the Odesa region, the blooming of the rare red-listed almond has begun. This plant is not only unique but also holds great significance for people due to its various applications.

This information comes from the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District.

Properties of Almond

Near the village of Levadyvka in the Berezivka district, one of Ukraine's most beautiful plants—the steppe almond—has begun to bloom. It is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and is considered regionally rare. It is usually found on slopes, in forest clearings, rocky ravines, and gorges. Almond oil is widely used in the cosmetic industry for making creams, shampoos, conditioners, and balms.

"In addition, almond performs an important soil-protective function—its strong root system stabilizes sloping terrains, protecting them from erosion. The fruits of the almond are rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and essential oils," states the report from the State Ecological Inspection.

Ecologists warn that all parts of the almond contain amygdalin—a substance that can release cyanide, which is toxic to humans. Therefore, caution is advised when interacting with this plant.
