The Odesa Church - Lutheran St. Paul’s Church - has become a venue for a new exhibition of paintings, posters, and art objects titled 'Blood - The Essence of Life'.
This exhibition creatively reinterprets the importance of blood donation through artistic imagery, developed in collaboration with the 'Donor Odesa' project by faculty and students from the Art and Graphic Department of the South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University named after K.D. Ushynsky.
The theme of love for one’s neighbor and saving lives through the act of sharing blood resonates deeply with Christian values.
Symbolically, a mural featuring a large red spot, representing the blood of Jesus Christ, adorns the altar of the Odesa Church, uniting all who come to the Lord’s altar for communion.
“In blood donation, people share blood regardless of nationality, denomination, or personal beliefs. If we believe in one God, then everything else that divides us should be secondary. Today, we seek to show our unity, solidarity, and readiness to help one another,” stated Pastor Alexander Gross during the exhibition opening, head of the Synod of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of Ukraine.
The opening of the exhibition also featured the awarding of diplomas and gifts to students and faculty members who contributed significantly to its creation.
Honored Artist of Ukraine, Dean of the Art and Graphic Department, Dmytro Velychko, Honored Artist of Ukraine Anna Nosenko, Honored Artist of Ukraine Natalia Loza, head of the DPM and Graphics Department, Yanina Tverdokhlibova, along with other faculty members and young artists, created over 40 works showcasing the beauty of blood donation and encouraging participation in saving lives.
This is the first exhibition in Ukraine featuring 3D art objects on the theme of blood donation, presented for the first time in the cathedral premises.
The exhibition will be open for visitors throughout the next month.
