In Odessa, the National Accessibility Week is ongoing, with local educational institutions actively participating.
The purpose of this week is to enhance students' awareness about the importance of tolerance towards people with disabilities. Various activities have been organized, including themed discussions such as “Friendly Hearts without Barriers,” “Accessibility – Why It Matters to Everyone?”, “Kindness and Compassion in Our Lives,” and “We are Equal – We are Different.”
Students participated in training sessions, themed exhibitions, and film screenings that highlight the significance of friendship and support.
For instance, at Odessa Specialized School No. 75, a workshop was held on creating “Hands of Friendship” involving high school parliament representatives and students from Odessa Professional Lyceum, themed “Step into the Future!”
Children from Odessa Preschool No. 260 joined the nationwide inclusive lesson “Different Together. Here and Now!” aimed at raising awareness among children and educators about inclusion, anti-bullying, and fostering a culture of mutual respect. The children watched the cartoon “Kitty Pascal and Hero Yoy” and created drawings of Kitty Pascal afterward.
At Odessa Lyceum No. 49, an informative meeting took place with representatives of the NGO “Barrier-Free” and 8th-grade students. During the meeting, they discussed issues of tolerance towards people with disabilities, how to communicate respectfully, and the importance of creating accessible environments for all citizens of Ukraine.
Such events help not only to increase awareness but also to foster a friendly atmosphere in society, promoting acceptance and support for all who need it.
