On October 1st, Ukraine celebrates Defender's Day.
This day is dedicated to the modern defenders of our country and heroes from various eras. Today's warriors continue and develop the ancient Ukrainian military traditions.
We are grateful to all who defend our independence and remember those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
In Odesa, a memorial event took place where flowers were laid at the Memorial to the Fighters for Ukraine.
Local authorities, military personnel, veterans, clergy, and Odesa residents participated in the ceremony.

Defender's Day in Ukraine was established in 2014 to honor the courage and heroism of those defending the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and to commemorate the military traditions and victories of the Ukrainian people. This day is linked to the Feast of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, revered by the Cossacks as their protector. Modern defenders of Ukraine uphold and develop these traditions.
The war shapes the Ukrainian nation. The heroism, bravery, and selflessness of today's defenders have earned them the highest level of trust among Ukrainians. The Ukrainian army has become one of the most capable in the world and, as it has for centuries, remains Europe's shield. It is our duty to be a strong rear for our army, to support and strengthen our defenders with maximum dedication, and to bring Victory closer.
