The mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, participated in a conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day.

According to the World Health Organization, diabetes is among the top three diseases that often lead to disability and death. Timely detection significantly reduces the risks of complications.

At the event, healthcare professionals were present alongside families and children living with diabetes, who receive comprehensive support. The development of modern diabetology was also discussed.

«Despite the war, Odessa continues to work on improving the quality of life for people with diabetes and raising awareness about this disease. We are ready to implement other modern solutions and technologies to enhance the lives of our children, as well as develop preventive measures that promote healthy lifestyles among youth,» said the mayor of Odessa.
 

In Odessa, over 30,000 adults and children live with diabetes. Of these, nearly 5,000 patients have insulin-dependent diabetes and receive insulin therapy, including over 400 children.

- All diabetes patients have access to necessary medications through the "Affordable Medicines" government program.
- The «Diabetes School» operates at the Reznik Children's Center.
- Insulin pumps and supplies for children with type 1 diabetes have been purchased under the City Health Program.
- Continuous glucose monitoring systems are installed for children at no cost.
- Free campaigns are conducted to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and early detection.
- A project has been launched to increase teachers' awareness of diabetes.
