In Odessa, a conference titled «The Women's Movement Acts in All Women» is taking place to commemorate 140 years of the women's movement in Ukraine, coinciding with the Ukrainian Women's Congress in Kyiv.
The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, emphasized the significant role of women in military, political, and social life. He recognized their contributions to preserving the city's traditions and culture, expressing gratitude for their unwavering support.
Sabine Fraser Gunesh, UN Women Ukraine representative, spoke about the UN's support for the movement and the desire to enhance collaboration:
"We know that women in Ukraine are free in their actions. For instance, last year, women established every second new business in the country. Women are taking on incredible roles, filling in for men who are fighting on the front lines. Currently, about 60,000 women are serving in the security and defense forces."
The event gathered historians, activists, military personnel, representatives of international organizations, economists, and gender experts.
Key topics discussed at the conference included the historical context of the women's movement in Ukraine and Odessa, the challenges and achievements of women in contemporary society, as well as leadership and the reconstruction of Ukraine post-war.
